Helping to Set Current Transformer Standards with IEEE PES

November 2014

To stay abreast of and influence the development of product standards in its area of expertise Polycast has been playing an active role on a number of IEEE PES bushing and transformer working groups and committees for several years.

The Transformer Committee is one of the largest and most active of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES).  IEEE PES provides the world’s largest forum for sharing the latest in technological developments in the electric power industry, for developing standards that guide the development and construction of equipment and systems, and for educating members of the industry and the general public.

Most recently Polycast’s Engineering Manager, Marek Kornowski has played an active role as member of the Transformer Committee’s working group updating the C57.13 standard for instrument transformers. C57.13 defines the test procedures and accuracy classes for instrument transformers across all voltage classes.  Marek’s particular focus has been to ensure that the new standards, which provide enhanced test procedures for instrument transformers, are universal and inclusive.

Marek and Polycast previously played a key role in helping to develop agreement and gain recognition of the IEC standard in North America for TPX, TPY and TPZ type current transformers. In 2015 Polycast will participate in the newly formed group to develop and advance standards for low voltage bushings for distribution class transformers.

Polycast’s active involvement on the IEEE PES bushing and current transformer committees and working groups helps ensure our engineering team remains up to date on new design trends and standards, and their application to Polycast products and test procedures.
