What are Capacitance Graded Bushings?
Capacitance graded bushings are a type of bushing used in electrical power systems to pass high voltage conductors through an insulating barrier (or through grounded barriers). They are designed to optimize the transition of the electrical field between the conductor and the surrounding metal enclosure, which helps to minimize the risk of electrical breakdown and improve the overall reliability of the system.
Capacitance graded bushings are commonly used in high voltage power systems, such as transformer or switchgear installations, where the conductors must be routed through walls or barriers to connect to the equipment. Extensive testing and simulations are conducted to validate the performance of a capacitance graded bushing under various conditions, including routine tests, type tests, and special tests as per relevant industry standards including, CSA, IEC, and IEEE. This ensures the bushing meets the requirements for insulation levels, temperature rise, and other performance parameters.
